College Recruiting

Want to play collegiately?

If you’re new to lacrosse and wondering what it takes to play in college, you’re not alone. In the Midwest especially, a lot of families are still learning how this all works. It can feel overwhelming at first — but it doesn’t have to be.

At Legacy Lacrosse, one of our goals is to help make the college process clearer and more approachable, especially for players who don’t come from traditional lacrosse hotbeds.

There’s No Perfect Path — And That’s Okay

Some players get recruited early. Others take longer to develop. Some go to big-name Division I schools. Others find the right fit at a smaller D3 or NAIA program. The important thing to understand is there’s no single way to get recruited — and “recruited” doesn’t always mean what people think it does.

What matters most is that the school you choose fits you — as a student, athlete, and person.

Understanding the Options

There are a lot of college lacrosse programs out there — over 700 in total across different levels:

There are talented and competitive players across all levels, it depends on what you’re looking for. We’ll help you figure that out.

  • Division I: Most competitive and demanding. Athletic scholarships.
  • Division II: Competitive with some athletic scholarship opportunities.
  • Division III: Great balance of academics and athletics. Academic scholarships.
  • NAIA / JUCO: Good for development, affordability, fast growing league.
  • Club / MCLA: Range of competitiveness, and perfect for a more flexible experience.

How Legacy Helps

We’ve been through this process — as players, as coaches, and now as mentors. We offer recruiting help to Legacy families because we want kids from our area to have real chances to play at the next level.

We’re not here to sell false promises. We’re here to give you honest feedback, help you build a plan, and connect you with programs that make sense for your goals.

That might look like:

  • Reviewing highlight film and giving you real feedback
  • Helping you write emails to coaches
  • Walking you through campus visit tips
  • Talking about what kind of schools match your academic goals
  • Reaching out to our network of college coaches across levels

You Don’t Need to Figure This Out Alone

If your kid loves lacrosse and wants to keep playing, we’ll help show them what’s possible. That doesn’t mean everyone ends up playing college lacrosse — but it does mean no one gets left behind just because they didn’t know where to start.

We’re here as a resource. Whether you’re brand new or already thinking about your college list, we’re happy to talk through it with you.

This isn’t about hype. It’s about helping players from our region take the next step — with clarity, confidence, and support.

If you’re part of the Legacy community, you’ve got people in your corner. Let’s figure it out together.
